From Tokyo, he moved to Honolulu where he became an associate designer with Clarence Lee Design and, in 1977, founded his own firm which soon attracted to its client list the foremost names in Hawaii business.

In recognition of the need for cross-cultural communication between Japan and America and internationally, Urano Design became UCI/Urano Communication International in 1985 and a Tokyo liaison office was formed.

Urano specializes in developments of a multicultural scale. He has undertaken identity, nomenclature and design systems for major hotels/resort projects in Hawaii, Japan, and generally throughout the Pacific Basin. His ease in dealing with a variety of cultures and his expertise in international business issues have been indispensable in ensuring the success of these projects.

Urano has received numerous awards for design and his work has been featured in IDEA (Japan) and PRINT (USA) magazines as well as many publications on trademarks, logos, and graphic design.
